Val-des-Lacs is a small, peaceful municipality nestled in the Laurentian highlands of Quebec, approximately 110 km north of Montreal. Part of the regional county municipality of Les Laurentides, Val-des-Lacs sits amid some of the most beautiful lake and forest scenery in eastern Canada.
From Montreal, take Autoroute 15 North (the Laurentian Autoroute) toward Saint-Jérôme, then continue north through Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts and Saint-Donat. The drive takes approximately 90 minutes in normal traffic. The Northern Cabin is located at 130 Ch. de l'Hémisphère N, Val-des-Lacs, QC J0T 2P0.
Mont-Tremblant ski resort, just 30 minutes from Val-des-Lacs, is the crown jewel of Laurentian winter recreation. With 102 ski runs, 14 lifts, a vertical drop of 875 metres, and a charming pedestrian village, it offers world-class skiing and snowboarding from December through April. Snowmobile trails connect throughout the Laurentians, snowshoeing routes wind through provincial parks, and local lakes offer ice fishing for pike, perch, and walleye.
As snow melts and wildflowers emerge, Val-des-Lacs transforms into a hiker's paradise. Parc national du Mont-Tremblant, one of Quebec's oldest provincial parks, offers over 400 km of hiking trails, canoe routes, and wildlife viewing. Kayaking and canoeing on the area's pristine lakes is exceptional — the water is remarkably clear and the shorelines are largely undeveloped. Mountain biking trails at Mont-Tremblant and nearby Mont-Blanc serve riders of every skill level.
September and October bring arguably the most spectacular foliage displays in eastern Canada. The Laurentian landscape erupts in crimson, orange, and gold as maple, birch, and aspen change colour. The "couleurs" (foliage season) typically peaks from late September to mid-October and draws visitors from across North America.
Saint-Donat (20 minutes) offers a charming main street with bistros, bakeries, and local grocery stores. Mont-Tremblant (30 minutes) has an excellent dining scene ranging from casual mountain fare to fine cuisine at the pedestrian village. The Northern Cabin's chef's kitchen also makes it easy to prepare gourmet meals using local Laurentian produce.
Book The Northern Cabin and use Val-des-Lacs as your base for Laurentian adventure.
